The term "TRADE" generally means the transaction of a service or product, in this case coffee. The term "FAIR" can have differing meanings depending whether you are the buyer or the seller. Therefore when the words ‘fair trade' are used the meaning can vary depending on the person using it.
So, what does Fairtrade (written as one word) mean? Currently the coffee trade is very unfair for the farmers as they have no control of the selling price and/or conditions of trade.
This is where an independent, international organisation called Fairtrade (one word) has set rules and principles of trade, controlling the definition of these words Fair Trade. So, by Cleanskin Coffee Co. being Fairtrade Certified we swing the definition of ‘fair' back to the coffee farmers allowing them to gain control of their livelihood, enabling them to feed their families, put clothes on their back and educate their children. These are basic rights that we take for granted each day.
